Hambleton & Swan Join Board

The Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County welcomed Jan Hambleton and Scott Swan to the Board in July. They were both appointed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for a four year term.

Hambleton is retired from working over 30 years in the healthcare field including 18 years at Robinson Memorial Hospital in various positions including the Health Information Management Director and 13 years as the Performance Improvement Analyst at Heartland Behavioral Healthcare .

She and her husband Jerry reside in Brimfield and have two grown daughters and four grandchildren.

“My father died by suicide many years ago. At the time, there was great stigma attached and no services were available to help me and my family get through it,” said Hambleton. “I understand how much mental health services are needed and see serving on the Board as my opportunity to give something back to my community.”

Swan has spent the last 25 years working in college administration serving in various roles and is currently with Kent State University.

He is a Township Trustee for Franklin Township and serves on the Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce Board. He lives in Kent with his wife Janice, who is the principal at Longcoy Elementary School in Kent and their three children.

Swan has been in recovery for the last 27 years. “I’m grateful for the people in recovery who have showed me the way to a better life. Recovery has given me an opportunity to enjoy life and help others,” said Swan. “I support educational programs that fight the stigma associated with mental illness & addiction. This lack of understanding often gets in the way of people seeking help & inhibits people from helping those who need.”
