The Mental Health and Recovery Board of Portage County & Coleman Health Services hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday in Ravenna to celebrate the Portage Crisis Center. The center will provide a safe, appropriate setting where individuals can receive immediate support.
The center is a first of its kind for Portage County. It contains a Crisis Receiving Unit for adults as well as a separate area for youth and their guardians providing a safe short-term setting for persons in a behavioral health crisis. This will offer an alternative to emergency rooms and law enforcement intervention when hospital-level care is not needed.
A Crisis Stablization Unit is part of the center that has 10 single beds with private bathrooms (with the ability to double-up if necessary) where people can stay for up to 2 weeks as a step-down from or in lieu of hospitalization.
Coleman Health Services will be providing the services in the facility. Funding for the project was from local levy & state funding, and from Coleman.
