The Mental Health & Recovery Board Welcomed two new board members in the summer of 2024.
Dina Douglas was sworn in at the August board meeting. Ms. Douglas is a resident of Kent and is Director of Services and In-Home Clinical Supervisor with Bellefaire JCB in Summit County. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Kent State University in telecommunications and a master’s degree in social science administration from Case Western Reserve University. Ms. Douglas previously held positions at Coleman Health Services, Family & Community Services, and Townhall II in Portage County.
“Having worked in the mental health field in Portage County for many years has given me some insight into the needs of the community,” Douglas said. “I wish to serve on the Board to advocate for needed services and impact services that are available in Portage in a positive way.”
Valerie Root joined the board at a special meeting at the end of July. Ms. Root is a resident of Ravenna and a longtime advocate for behavioral health services in Portage County. She and her husband Mike were instrumental in establishing Root House with Family and Community Services, the first residential treatment center for men in Portage County.
“I learned about the Board when they provided funding to make Root House possible,” Root explained. “I’m excited to serve and to help the community and many different ways.”
